On a Quest

A fantastic movie in all aspects - tale (true story of Swami Chinmayananda - from freedom fighter to atheism to being a sadhu and then creating a missionary that develops spirituality spanning 80 countries), casting (amazing resemblance to actual people), acting (so intense), cinematography (that ashes going into Ganges), location (Himalayas), setting (1950s India, vehicles, etc.), apparel - you name it, the movie has scored on all fronts. Definitely a must-watch.

Language: Available on many languages but I saw it in English which I believe was original

Bhagavad Gita

I guess it was the first time I saw a Sanskrit film. It is a very abstract movie which talks about Lord Krishna's sermon to Arjuna on th ebattlefield, about how a Man should move upwards on the Chakras, how he keeps getting distracted and defeated by the 11 internal foes, etc. The abstraction is portrayed physically by the Man moving upwards on Himalayas. Cannot fathom how the movie was made with all those snow, and actors walking barefoot and with hardly any clothes on. Understandably, the movie has won many awards. Good direction, screenplay and although at times what the heck this is all about, it kind of makes sense in the end. Worth a watch, at least for the hardships faced by the crew. Available on YouTube.
